About Us

We are The Soaring Eagles Lion and Dragon Dance Team. We are based in Toronto and are dedicated to sharing the vibrant energy excitement of traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance. Founded in 2023, we are committed to preserving the art of Chinese Lion Dance.

Our Achievements

Over the years, we've proudly competed in national-level competitions across Canada — most recently earning 1st and 3rd place in the Open Category (17+) at the 2025 Canadian National Lion Dance Championship. Our team is led by the highly experienced Sifu Eagle Li, who has even performed with Cirque du Soleil in Messi10. In addition to high-level performance quality, we also offer complimentary photo services when available, to help you capture memories from your event.

What is Lion Dance

Chinese Lion Dance is a traditional art featuring highly skilled lion performers who dance to the music of cymbals and drums. Dancers perform in pairs that consist of a head and a tail, requiring great teamwork, coordination and years of training to create an outstanding show. The dancers mimic a lion’s movement underneath a traditional lion costume, accompanied by the beat of the loud, powerful music from the drums, cymbals, and gong.

The Lion symbolizes power, wisdom, and prosperity, believed to ward off evil spirits and bring great fortune to those it visits. That’s why lion dance is often performed during Lunar New Year, at weddings, grand openings, and many other events.

Our High Poles (Mei Hua Zhuang)

The pinnacle of modern lion dancing is the art of jumping on elevated poles called “jongs”, or high poles, which rise high above the ground, often towering over the audience. Our team uses high poles which range from 1 foot to 12 feet tall. That’s taller than most house’s first floors! The performers leap from pole to pole, demonstrating strength, precision, and coordination. Mei Hua Zhuang is a great demonstration of physical mastery and the trust between lion dance partners to bring each other from one pole to the next.

Proudly serving Toronto, the GTA, and beyond.
